Celtic striker Tony Watt has raised tensions ahead of kick-off.
Earlier in the week the Celtic teenage striker was questioned by
Romanian journalists over his knowledge Steaua Bucharest, and Watt’s
response went down like a ton of bricks.
Watt told reporters: “It’s an honor for Steaua to play against us.
We’re a very good team and traditional Europe club. We play in the
Champions League, and we hope to beat them and show them that we are
indeed a top club. I know nothing about Steaua apart from the name and
the fact that it is a European club.”
After those quotes were printed in Romania, Celtic’s press officer
was forced to issue a hasty, grovelling apology: “We apologiSe and
regret Watt’s statements made about Steaua. Our club does not agree with
such statements made against other teams.”
Much of the pre-match Celtic talk has focused on new faces at
Parkhead. Neil Lennon is keen for trialist Tom Rogic to play in the
club’s friendly with Steaua after 20-year-old Australian international
midfielder has impressed during his trial from the A-League’s Central
Coast Mariners.
Israeli international Rami Gershon could also get a first run-out for
Celtic after agreeing a loan move several days ago, while Anthony
Stokes will play some part against Steaua after being out since August.
James Forrest, Miku, Paddy McCourt and Lassad will sit it out due to
various slight ailments.
As for Steaua, Brazilian striker Adi (7 goals in 12 matches) and
playmaker Cristian Tanase (6 goals in 18 games) are undoubtedly the Liga
I side’s dangermen.
